Junior Boys - Dull to Pause
I’ve had this album in my library for ages but I’m just now giving it a listen. I like Junior Boys quite a bit, but I’m more acquainted with this album.This song struck me as a favorite along with “Parallel Lines.”
Also, for some reason, the beginning of this song reminds me of DeVotchKa…

I told one of my coworkers I don’t believe in God anymore and she got so uppity with me. I almost wanted to start laughing at her reaction, as she just stared at me and kept telling me to “stop saying things like that!”
Now she’s treating me differently! I hope I don’t try to get saved…
The way this song is composed is absolutely ridiculous yet so effective. It does begin a little silly, with the low-voiced men (Jaar himself I think?) intermingled with that bubbling noise (my first thought: bong) but then those sounds take on a whole new meaning. That delicate piano, that sexy sax and the holdout on hearing them all at once until the end…damn.
I may have posted this song on here earlier sometime, but it’s totally worth the repost. This album was one of the weirder ones I tuned into last year but it’s well worth a listen (especially if you like well-produced albums).
